Bruce Springsteen was the subject of an entire week of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week. He debuted the above song, which is about the financial crisis, and absolutely kicks ass.

It’s rooted in an early 19th Century Irish anti-war song, “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye” and its more familiar cousin, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.” It’s spiritually more similar to the 1979 Clash face-melter “English Civil War.” And it raises the question “How can a song featuring an accordion and a banjo rock so hard?”
